2021-ongoing
The Courtroom Sketches series works with a longtime tradition of recording litigations through drawings. This practice still survives in many parts of the world, because of the non-interruptive nature of it. The only difference is they are sometimes made on tablets. The result is a strange discipline, where documentary and art are magically mixed.
In this series, I purposefully invent improbable and surreal scenes that, by drawing in this form, automatically make the viewer feel like they are seeing a record of reality. In the first scene, to the shock of everyone watching, the lawyer unexpectedly vomits blood. In the second scene, inexplicably, an ape is breastfeeding a human baby and a woman is breastfeeding an ape baby. And in the third, for reasons unknown, three Elvis Presley's impersonators got into a fight with three Michael Jackson's impersonators.
All the sketches are digitally drawn and these three are the beginning of an ongoing series.
